New 'green jobs' coming to Palm Coast

Information courtesy of City of Palm Coast

Galtronics Telemtry, Inc. has chosen Palm Coast to be their corporate headquarters site, following approval of city and state economic development incentive packages. With the mayor and city council’s top priority of expanding the local economy, Palm Coast and its partners have successfully attracted a new ‘green tech’ company to the community.

Mayor Jon Netts says the term ‘going green’ is much more than simply two words.

“Going green is more than just a catchy phrase,” Netts said. “The green initiatives established by the mayor and council continue to attract attention, both locally and nationally. Galtronics brings Palm Coast more of the jobs that we need and a real boost to the local economy. The domino effect in the high tech market place is sure to follow, making Palm Coast the place to live and work.”

Galtronics Telemetry is aiming to capture a stake of the ‘smart grid’ market, anticipating the creation of 40 primary green technology jobs spanning over the next three years. The average wage could be 115 percent above Flagler County’s average. The parent company, Galtronics, Ltd., is a multi-national company with a presence in six countries. Finding a new location was a competitive process, and incentives, along with quality-of-life factors, made the difference in the company’s final decision.

Graydon Parsons, president of Galtronics Telemetry, says they are happy to have chosen Palm Coast.

“We are absolutely delighted to be headquartered in Palm Coast,” Parsons said. “Our decision was made easier through a clear commitment by city officials to attract new businesses into the area. Their commitment to being an award-winning green city, combined with its high-quality workforce, is a natural fit for Galtronics Telemetry.”

Palm Coast worked closely with Enterprise Flagler and the state of Florida to offer incentives that enticed Galtronics Telemetry to locate to Palm Coast. The incentives package included:
            -State tax incentives
-Connection to the city’s fiber optic network
-Grant equivalent to city property taxes based on the number of local residents (limited     to five years)
-Sharing in job relocation costs (limited to three years)
-Future partnerships in the rollout of the company’s products or pilot program

The city’s partnerships with Enterprise Flagler and the state of Florida were also essential in successfully attracting Galtronics Telemetry to Palm Coast.

Greg Rawls, executive director for Enterprise Flagler, says Galtronics Telemetry has a lot to offer Palm Coast.

“Galtronics Telemetry is an exciting new company for our community,” Rawls said. “Their development of products to modernize our utility grid will bring the high-wage, high-skilled jobs all communities seek. With the creative and innovative staff of Galtronics Telemetry and the backing of an internationally established parent company – who knows what the future holds for this company and our community.”

Palm Coast to hold Christmas tree recycling event
Information courtesy of the City of Palm Coast

After the holiday season, Palm Coast will host a tree recycling event where you can bring your Christmas trees, along with used VCRs, TVs and CD or DVD players.

On Saturday, Jan. 9, you can recycle your Christmas tree and receive a three-gallon evergreen tree for free in exchange.

This will be the city’s Third Annual Christmas Tree Recycling Event, and it will take place from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Palm Coast’s fuel depot, located at 22 Utility Drive.  Staff members will also be distributing information on how to become a more green-conscious resident.

All of the trees that are donated during the recycle will be used as mulch for foliage throughout Palm Coast.  City staff requests that residents planning to recycle their tree remove all decorations, lights, tinsel and ornaments from the trees prior to donation.

Real Estate Overview: Positives From 2009

At the beginning of this year I had said it would be an interesting year for Real Estate in the area.  It's no secret that Real Estate has had it's challenges in the area over the last few years, but this year has shown some great positives.  First, 'the market' when it comes to Real Estate can not be lumped all into one category.  'The market' is broken into four main categories:

  • Residential Homes
  • Land
  • Condominiums
  • Commercial

Each will perform differently.  The primary segment that I focus on when posting local market data monthly on my website www.PalmCoastHomeShow.com is the Residential Housing market segment.  This is often the best guage of  performance in the area.
